We set off from here and stopped at the Mallyan Spout hotel for coffee, then went down the steep path to the waterfall.

We walked alongside the river until we came to a sign which directed us up onto the moor, as the path we intended to follow was suffering from erosion.

The moor gave way to upland sheep farming fields,

We had good views of Curlews making a right racket, they must have had young nearby.

We descended through some woodland

and across the river to the Birch Hall Inn, where we had two nice pints of local brew Bekswatter / lime and soda and 3 pork pies and a packet of crisps for lunch. Very nice.

The pub was next to and part of the village stores. The bar room was tiny, with service from a small hatch. We sat in the garden out the back next to the river.

Back at Goathland we did another short loop and saw another Curlew. Back at Goathland again we went to the tea shop, which sold beer, unlike many lesser examples of its type.

There was some evening Barn Owl Activity.
