J went to Cape Breton step dancing class, then beginners’ Gaelic class then fiddle class at Ceolas, followed by more step dancing in the afternoon.
R set off at 8:15 to explore. Drove to north side of Loch Sgioport and parked at the end of the road at Caolas Liubharsaigh. Walked along faint paths and sheep tracks past freshwater lochans down to the sea loch.
Several abandoned crofts, some sheep and wheatears.
Fell in a bog once. Didn’t see any person on the road there or on the three mile walk.
Views of the Cuillins on Skye in the distance.
Feet wet after bog mishap, so trapped socks in car rear window to dry them.
Drove up to North Uist and had a look for otters by the police station at Lochmaddy. No otters, but saw a seal, artic skua, divers and mergansers in the loch.
Walked out over a supposedly condemned suspension bridge and had a look in a small camera obscura. A faint image of the waves in the loch was discernible once eyes had adjusted to the dark.
Then to the Committee Road, where we’d been previously. Parked and ate lunch. Saw a golden eagle, and watched a hen harrier carrying food back to her young. Also buzzards, kestrels and short-eared owls.
Stopped at Loch Bi on the way back: lots of swans and gulls.
Back around 5:30. We were going to walk to the Lochboisdale Hotel for dinner, but it started raining heavily, so we drove to the CoOp at Daliburgh and bought food to cook at the chalet.
Still raining, but forecast for tomorrow looks OK.
