Thu May 14: to Norfolk

R went to Minsmere early: in the Island Mere hide shortly after 6am. It was cold: 3.5 degrees C on arrival. Bitterns, Terns, Harriers, Sedge Warblers. Water Rails calling.

Great-Crested Grebe

We checked out of the Eel’s Foot (great location, nice beer, friendly people, food a bit dodgy this time) and drove two hours to Cley Marshes reserve. Coffee, then walked around the reed beds. Swallows were nesting in all three of the close-proximity hides and were whizzing in and out around our heads. Lunch in the visitor centre, then out to the beach. Marsh Harriers, lots of Sedge Warblers, etc.

Reed Warbler
On the beach at Cley

Stopped at Cley to get some hot smoked salmon and other provisions for tea (cheese, beer, vegetables, etc), then checked in to self-catering in Burnham Market.
