Friday: food, food, rain (and hornets)

OK so let’s get to the important bit first.

Food.

Luscious lunch at the Sheppey Inn in Godney. Big diner of a pub with a performance stage. They’re looking for musicians to perform apparently – hmmm – do we know any?

Dinner at the Devonshire Arms in Long Sutton. Venison to die for. Well some poor deer did.

And in between the eating. Birding quite a lot of the time in the rain. At Westhay Moor and Shapwick Heath nature reserves. Actually sitting in an empty hide in the rain watching ducks doing their thing isn’t so bad. Especially when punctuated by the ghostly apparition of a great white egret on the wing and the darting turquoise of a kingfisher.

But nature appreciation only goes so far. Didn’t stay long in the hide at Westhay occupied by a hornet’s nest. They are mighty big for sure.

Nice room at the Devonshire but they only made it up for one person. Are we going to share a bath towel and a bottle of water? I think not!!!
