We left the cottage and went to Plas Glyn y Weddw (where we’d been on Wednesday and had had a coffee and seen the tin man sculpture).
We had a look round the gallery and had a coffee. Then we drove through picturesque sunlit Snowdonia and Cambrian Mountains to Llanidloes, where we had Welsh Rarebit for lunch in a tea shop. Had a look round the town then headed off. Just before Rhayader we passed a sign for Gilfach Farm nature reserve. We doubled back, and walked up the valley along the Afon Marteg. There was a hide, from where we watched a Dipper and Tree Creepers and a Nuthatch, and Pied Flycatchers coming in and out of a nest box.
Further on, at the old farm buildings, we saw a Redstart, Garden Warblers, Bullfinches.
We drove to the Nant Ddu Lodge, about an hour down the road. It wasn’t very good so we made a booking for Peterstone Court for tomorrow night. More on this tomorrow.
