Thursday: a snorkel, a walk, a climb

First thing, we drove 20 minutes to Porth Ysgaden. A rough bumpy track for half a km then space to park at the top of the bay. R went snorkelling. Not great visibility but fun, and one big spider crab.

Then we walked along the coast path. Lots of sheep. We watched some Sandwich Terns diving into the sea.

On the coast path

There were some Sand Martins.

We had lunch in the Lion Hotel at Tudweiliog, with a pint of elderflower beer. Then back across the fields and we drove half an hour up the road and parked in a lay-by on the B4417. We followed the footpath up the hill to the Tre’r Ceiri Iron Age hill fort.

It was hot and steep and involved scrambling over scree. We saw Ravens close-by and heard Choughs calling and a distant Cuckoo. The views from the top were pretty stunning. Iron age stonework is still present in the encircling wall and inside the fort. You can see the walls of round houses which would have had turf roofs. 2000 years old.

Back at Nefyn we walked down to the sea front and looked at the huge sandy beach.

We walked back via the shop, where we got some lamb chops for tea.
