Monday: Whitby

On the way out we startled a deer in the herb garden. It scampered around for a bit and then jumped over the gate.

We went to Whitby. Parked at the Abbey car park. It was £14 (each) to get in to see a building which didn’t even have a roof so we had a look around the outside and then went down the steps into the town.

Mostly tat all around. Shops selling jet and rock and fish and chips.

Top quality tat

Good lunch, though: crab salad and chips at The Fisherman’s Wife.

Lunch

We went to see the whalebone arch and the Captain Cook statue.

We bought some Halibut for dinner at the fishmonger.

We walked along the cliffs, sheer drops, Herring Gulls, Kittiwakes and Fulmars flying up.

J went back to the tea rooms and R went on to Saltwick Bay. Fossils in the slate. Stonechats.

Saltwick Bay

We stopped at the butchers at Sleights on the way back and bought a large pie and some stuff for dinner later in the week.

Halibut was nice.

On the way to the pond, Clare was approaching with a hypodermic syringe and Chris was standing next to a fat ewe ready to give birth. Antibiotics were needed, it seemed.

Barn Owl came out again.

On the way back the ewe was with her new lamb.
