In lieu of today’s breakfast we’d opted last night for a packed lunch, which was delivered to our door in a cool box. Consequently, we were at Minsmere at 8am. We saw Red Deer from the Bittern hide, plus the usual Marsh Harriers and so on.
We did the route to the Island Mere hide and on the way spotted a Tree Creeper coming in and out of its nest in a dead tree.
After a coffee at the visitor centre we drove to Westleton Heath in search of Dartford Warblers. A couple of Yorkshire gents at breakfast yesterday had recommended it as a good spot. We parked in the Wildlife Trust car park and walked around the heath and through the woods. A few fleeting glimpses of Dartford Warblers. Cuckoos calling. Several Kestrels.
Ate lunch in the car, then back to Minsmere.
We walked out of the reserve and up to Dunwich Heath.
On the heath we had good views of a Dartford Warbler, Stonechats, Linnets.
Back through the reserve. Lots of flies, plus all the usual birds.
A Bittern flew over, Bearded Tits flitting about, a Red Deer approached us up a cut in the reeds.
Squirrels.
