On Friday we went to Romsey and went for lunch at the Olive Tree with Vera. Wendy came round in the afternoon. We left at 3:30 and drove to the Fox and Hounds at Whittlebury, near Towcester. Nice meal in the pub. Just down the road the house where J’s uncle and aunt had lived, back in the day.
On Saturday we went to Ely. We looked around the impressive Cathedral.

There was a very large table made from a fossilised bog oak unearthed from the fens in 2012.

Oliver Cromwell’s house was near the cathedral. It’s now a tourist information centre.

We bought a paper and got a take-away coffee for the car in Cafe Nero.
We met D and S for lunch at the Three Horseshoes pub in Roydon, near Kings Lynn. After lunch we walked around the Norfolk Wildlife Trust Roydon Common reserve. Damp oak woods and breckland, we saw some Muntjac deer and a few birds.

Then we drove up the road a bit to the other end of the reserve. It was dusk and 6 or 7 Red Kites arrived to roost in a stand of trees.

Half hour drive to Titchwell Manor. We saw Father Christmas on the way, and a barn owl flew across the road in front of us lit up bright by the headlights.
