On Friday storm “Eunice” happened, so we left a bit later in the afternoon than originally planned, and drove directly to the Red Lion at Babcary.
Nice room, nice pub, low ceilings, dim lights, lots of horse pictures, very nice beer, pretty good food.
Saturday morning at breakfast J predicted we’d see Bullfinches as the view out of the window from our breakfast table was similar to a view from a breakfast table in a different pub in a different place several years ago when we’d seen Bullfinches. We did a walk.
Cold, wet and windy, but none the worse for it. Large flocks of Redwings, Starlings, Fieldfares.
Sadly the pub we’d planned for lunch was closed so we took a short-cut back to the Red Lion, and, still full of full English breakfast, we drove to Shapwick Heath.
Just out of the car park we had good views of two male Bullfinches in a tree. The sun came out but it was fairly breezy.
Lots of water birds: Gadwall, Shoveller, Widgeon, Teal, Great White Egret, Marsh Harrier, Great Crested Grebe, cows.
Over the road at Ham Wall a pair of Robins were very confiding and wanting food, R had them eating bits of a cereal bar out of his hand.
