We got on the 10:45 flight from Exeter airport to St Mary’s.
The flight took about an hour.
The weather was good so we had good views all the way. At one point we could see most of Dartmoor:
On arrival a shuttle bus took us from the airport to our accommodation. We couldn’t get in until 3pm, so we left our bags in the drive and walked back to Hugh Town and had lunch (crab sandwich, cheese sandwich) in the Kavorna Cafe. After lunch we walked to Porthcressa beach and had look in the tourist information centre, then walked through the allotments and out along the headland. Lots of song thrushes around.
The house is nice and spacious, about a 10-minute walk from the centre of Hugh Town. In the evening we went back into town to have dinner at the ‘On The Quay’ restaurant. We’d booked the table a few weeks earlier. Fancy food: ‘Science of scallops’ involved a test tube of miso sauce and a pipette of herb oil in addition to the scallops. Half lobster with chips was nice. J had Megrim.
