Tuesday: Bearded Titchwell

After breakfast R went to Titchwell and J stayed at the Inn and played fiddle and went for a walk.

At Titchwell there were lots of waders on the shore: sanderlings, knot, turnstones, oystercatchers.

A male hen harrier appeared, flying low over the fields in the distance. Pinging calls from some reeds, and then good but fleeting views of bearded tits. It was windy and the reeds were swaying around, so it was hard to get a photo.

An excellent photo of a bearded tit

Back at the White Horse for lunch (mussels, chowder), then we both went back to Titchwell and watched the bearded tits for an hour.

Back at the pub, we walked along the raised bank towards Burnham Overy Staithe for a mile or so. The sun was out and shining on the saltmarsh and mud banks and fields and the distant windmill at Burnham.

Saltmarsh

It was a calm and peaceful stroll, disturbed only by the sky-filling roar of two F-15 fighter jets flying loop-the-loops over our heads.

Dinner: salmon smoked on the premises, oysters, Dover sole, wild mushroom risotto, blackberry parfait. Very nice.

Rain forecast all day tomorrow.
