Good walk in the Wolds.

Walk route

Rolling hills and farmland, woods, chalk streams. Lunch at the Green Man in Scamblesby. A bit damp and misty when we set off, but it brightened up as the day went on, and the last few miles were in warm bright sunshine.

High on the Wolds

On the high ground, lots of skylarks, and we stopped for a while to watch a mixed flock of small birds flitting between field and hedge and bathing in puddles on the track. Corn buntings and a tree sparrow were among them.

Red Hill nature reserve was plunging slopes of chalk grassland and exposed chalk seams.

Red Hill

Two roe deer, one red fox, one rabbit, one squirrel.

Stopped to look at some old churches.

Old church

It’s very quiet on the roads and footpaths. People are very friendly.

Back at the pub after dinner we asked the landlady about Skegness and she advised us not to visit.
