We were not expecting to see much when we arrived late afternoon at Ham Wall. It was overcast, windy, and starting to rain. However, small flocks of starlings were arriving at the same time as we were. A great egret flew past, and a young heron came very close, seemingly oblivious to our presence on the track crossing a rhine.
We went to a new covered viewing area and watched more flocks of starlings and a peregrine, which caught one of them.
We walked further along the track and had great views of thousands of starlings swirling about and diving down into the reeds.
It was cold, getting dark and raining more heavily now, so we headed to the Devonshire Arms.
