In the morning we drove across East Burra and parked at Houss. We walked out on Houss Ness for a bit, hoping to spot for otters. We didn’t see any. We went to Scalloway and had Cullen Skink at Da Haaf, a nice canteen attached to the University of the Highlands and Islands marine centre overlooking the bay. After lunch we had a look around Scalloway and went into the castle.
Then we walked around the golf course at Asta Loch. J dropped R off by the Side of Weisdale Vow and went for tea and cake at the Bonhonga Gallery cafe. R watched the wildlife, and found a family of newly-hatched wrens.
Back at the cabin, we walked down to the water and sat on the grass watching terns, skuas, gannets and seals.
Good dinner in Lerwick at an unusual French restaurant called C’est La Vie (cassoulet, duck sausages), and then the Marlex bar at the Douglas Arms for the Tuesday night music session.
J played fiddle, R sampled some local beers. Lots of the tunes were familiar – not unknown-to-us Shetland tunes as we’d been expecting.
The session was friendly and the music was good. We stayed until about 11pm.
