In Lerwick R bought a replacement camera, from the choice of one available in the only camera shop in Shetland. Not as good as the broken one, but will have to do. We had a coffee in the Peerie Shop cafe and mooched around Lerwick for a bit. It’s the carnival tonight, and during the day there was an RNLI fundraiser on the car park next to Victoria Pier. There were raffles, lucky dips, radio controlled boats, tea and lots of cakes. The lifeboat and coastguard ship were moored against the pier. We had a look around the lifeboat.
There was a lifeboatman in the water.
Another man was walking around with a goat.
On a flatbed trailer there was a succession of bands playing. Children were trying out the sirens on a nearby coastguard vehicle, which was a bit distracting to audience and band!
We watched a Scottish dance band, then went to have lunch at the Queen’s Hotel: seafood chowder, scallops, chips, very nice.
In the afternoon we watched a klezmer band, a shanty group from Yell and a Shetland fiddle group.
We bought provisions at the Co-op, and drove to our self-catering lodge near Fladdabister. Great views over to Bressay, and we can watch terns, gannets, fulmars, etc from the kitchen window.
R walked up to the farm shop at the top of the road. They were shut, but saw him outside and let him in. R bought a couple of lamb chops. The family were inside eating their dinner.
